Thrift Haul

Clockwise from top left: 90s Ann Taylor Mesh overlay Bodycon dress,
Limited screened American Apparel tee,
Vintage Espadrilles tennis shoes,
70s Velvet jumper dress,
Men's Gap flannel, and
Suede Tassel Crossbody purse

I got all these goodies for around $20 between the two Salvation Armies in Erie. The piece that cost the most is the bag because for some reason the stores are changing their policy on Wednesday sale day to exclude accessories. l a m e

I love the warm weather; it's going away for a while, but in the meantime, my t-shirt collection and cut off shorts can come out to play. This tee is actually a new addition; it was $3 at Gabes and fits like a dream.

One day women will all become monsters

I really love incorporating blatant modern pieces with vintage garments. Not only just mixing the two in a surreal juxtaposition but adding some quirky elements to up the freak factor. I feel like the culmination of all these elements represent the complexity that is me, and I love blogging for the fact that it documents my style development.

How could I love you less now that I know you more

Oxford- Goodwill, Sweater- Swapped from sister, Jeans- Urban Outfitters,
Shoes- Last Chance

I wore this out to see 21 Jump Street. Originally, I wanted to wear this sweater with my purple heart Authentics, but the colors did not go as well as I thought they would. So to solve the shoe crisis, I pulled these brogues out and voila- matching laces and oxford.

21 Jump Street is freeking hysterical, really funny, and not overly gross. It's also an interesting view for the indoctrination of hipster into today's youth. Weirdly, it is pushed in a movie that is so not intended for young viewers, but they will inevitably watch- as they should because it is hilarious. Maybe it's just the filmmakers' way of showing they are in touch with the hip trends of today. Nonetheless, it is an interesting mainstream interpretation of alternative culture.

Rainy day layers

PacSun Button down- BF's, Necklace- Buffalo Exchange, Argyle Sweater- Gift
from Janessa, NY&Co Cardigan- Salvation Army, Pants- The Limited, Shoes-
Salvation Army

I wish I would have bookmarked the website that gave me the inspiration to add the button down to this outfit. I think it was a Tumblr that documented women's styles that had a masculine touch.

The whole idea of fashion blurring lines between gender roles is so fascinating, brimming with subversive potential. Seen mostly in high fashion and alternative cultures like punk and grunge, it contributes feminism's voice through individuals' expression of style.

Black and Tan

Earrings, Old Navy cardigan, and Vintage Skirt- Goodwill, Urban Outfitters dress-
Gabriel Brothers, Military Issue belt- Gift from Janessa, Watch-Casio,
Shoes- NameBrand Exchange

An idea dawned on me to wear this black vintage skirt with the buttons open; I have to wear something under it anyway because of its sheerness. I'm sure more items from my closet would have work but this dress is the first thing I pulled out and easily put this outfit together around the black and tan color scheme. To amp up the feel of the dress's retro cut and cardigan combo, I went with my saddle-esque wingtips and victory roll mohawk. I love experimenting with layers and this skirt provides so many opportunities for an unexpected look.

The blue period

Vintage Top- Goodwill, Vintage Pants- Gift from Janessa, Casio Watch-
Kmart, Nike Cortez- Gabirel Brothers

I realized I have been subconsciously drawn to all of the royal blue/cobalt pieces in my wardrobe. I have no idea why my color stories are consistent from day to day. Before this blue period, I was wearing red and green nonstop. I feel like it's been a coping mechanism. Perhaps the red/green phase was an attempt to gather energy in order to maintain my momentum. Now my life is definitely in a different stage and  adorning myself in blue must be an effort to grasp all of the calmness I can. There is a lot going on in my life, and serenity is the only thing holding everything together until the next big moment passes.

Thrift spotting

Some great finds I passed on while out at the Peach St. Salvation Army. I took these with my Galaxy Nexus S. It has a nice camera and I like using it. Post-photos, I checked and it has settings and white balance options. Not a bad point and shoot replacement.
Vintage Smoking slippers

Crazy hand painted vintage pumps

Vintage sewing machines

I have never seen any this old in thrift stores before, but now I'm
seeing them everywhere. Def not a sign because I got a new
one for my birthday this year

Super cute vintage house dress. I passed on it because it was a weird cotton
poly blend and fit me a little strange

We don't have money, so we can't lose it

Hoodie- Goodwill, Jeans- Gap, Minnetonka Moccasins- Marshalls

The stars were not in alignment today, mucho inauspiciousness. I was expecting to take some bummy in the mud looking photos and I cannot explain why I look so blissed out. For whatever reason, I just rolled with it and it built momentum so I actually got to smiling again. Weird.

Baby books and stripes

Scarf- Goodwill, AE Tee- Goodwill, Necklace- Burlington, Urban Outfitters Jeans-
Gabriel Brothers, Chinese Laundry Slip ons- Marshalls

Today was visiting the MIL day. We had a nice dinner with the fam and enjoyed the quality time. We also needed some documents from her to proceed with the wedding plans- guest lists and baptism certificate. We got a pleasant surprise when these came with some bonus extras. I brought home his baby book filled with copious, borderline ocd notes on every aspect of baby care you can imagine. It must have been the nurse in her before she even went to school! I was also humbled by her offer to use her baby book- the one her mother kept and where she kept her daughter's records. I love surprisingly touching days like this.

Avant-guardian Angel

O'Neill Flannel- Goodwill, Dress and Tights- Gabriel Brothers, Shoes- Last Chance

I don't know what it was, but something made me want to wear a flannel as a coverup and I am always looking for ways to wear this dress. The colors in all three of the pieces actually match pretty closely. It's getting warmer here, but I need to buy some shave cream before I can bare my legs. I am getting pretty sick of tights.

New Finds

This is everything I bought during my thrift shopping date. Not too much, but that's ok- no guilt today! Plus, I am also a little unsure of how my SS12 wardrobe is going to shape up so I wasn't looking for anything specific.I didn't have one of those transcendent trips that yields an incredible gem, but I'm happy with my new stuff. Everything was purchased at the two Salvation Army stores in Erie.
Early 80s Vintage blouse. This is a little different for me but I like the print and the
colors- two things that are sorely lacking from my spring wardrobe. I figure I will
wear it at least a couple times. Well worth the $1.50

This is my favorite!  90s Vintage printed cardigan

Vintage silk Liberty scarf.

Vintage 80s Printed Sweater. I love this- how could you not? And it actually fits
really well.

We got some time to kill; let's go kill time

Swapped Vintage Sweater, Lace shirt- Marshalls, Belt- Gabriel Brothers, Jeans-
Gap, Earrings- Goodwill, Necklaces- Gifted and Thrift store, Vintage Glass and
Shoes- Salvation Army

I had a thrift store date planned well in advance so I could get my fiend on. Haha. I'm so addicted and my itch needs scratched. It was just one of those days where there was nothing I wanted anywhere. It didn't help that half the places we went to were closed for the night. I shouldn't have stood around so long enjoying the weather and dranking wine. :p

It might get worse than this before it gets better

I think it's safe to say that I love this jacket. I got it a while back and maybe wore it once, but now it is better suited to my current style. I can see myself wearing it with a tight sweater, or bigger polka dots. It reminds me of a bright sunny 50s high school chick and makes me wish for a circle skirt.
