Like Cheap Trick, I surrender

I love the fact that it never occurred to my grandmother that styles from her youth would come back. My circle crown braid just trips her out and she gets it that oldies are goodies- pretty much no matter what they are- the older and weirder, the better. I can't wait to see if she digs out any cool surprises for me from her archives.

I'm not a prophet but I'm here to profit

Today I found the place! I'm going to have my wedding reception at the Watson Curtze Mansion. I can't believe I've never been to this museum. I feel a bit differently about Erie after my first visit and I couldn't have dreamed of a more perfect place to have my first party as husband and wife.

Where the lines overlap

Some serious wedding planning has been going on. I am scouting locations right now and there are so many options to explore. My list is being narrowed down and it has been quite refreshing to find out that many of the venues I've visited are affordable. This is what I wore on my last out and about to look into the Riverside.

Come what may

Another trip to the Peach Street Salvation Army. This time I was trying to leave with nothing and luckily most of what I found was either too big or more money than I wanted to spend. Here are a few of the cool things I saw.

20/20

Here's the debut of my crazy 1980s vintage Odie sweater. I rocked it backwards to show my mad dog style- the total selling point on this one.

Anchor drag me down before I take the dive

I totally buy into the varsity jacket trend. I saw one recently from a local high school in a thrift store but it was way too big. Of course the destroyer would be the ultimate for me but as always I hate spending money. When I found this pseudo replacement during a post Christmas sale, I was satisfied.

If faith should fail us then hope will see us through

Today I got to feed my addiction. I swear shopping is a monkey on my back. At Gabe's I got a handmade sweater and some doh! summer shoes. Now I can cross huaraches off my list. We also went to the 12th St. Sal Val which I haven't visited in years. It is small and has a very eclectic clientele but super unique old stuff. Their record stock is out of this world. I had to tear myself away from buying a sealed $2 box of junk *I mean* accessories. I refrained because it wasn't jewelry like I initially thought. I kind of regret that decision now, but at least I don't feel like someone from Storage Wars. Anyway, I proudly left with only one totally kick ass 80s Odie sweater. Good day had by all.

End of the rainbow looking treasure

I don't know where to start with this one. I just love it. From the gypsy flair head wrap down to my amazing new thrifted heels. I wore this on a jaunt out for a bite at our local friendly Charlie's Pub. <3

Beauty in the breakdown

I feel so fluffy! This is how to stay warm on chilly days where I am determined to go without my coat. There are many layers here you cannot see. But it worked. And I am extremely grateful for above freezing days where I can even discuss the possibility of shedding the essential winter outer armor. The sun definitely has my spirits lifted.

All these molecules don't make me who I am

I decided to keep this retro outfit distinctly modern to avoid looking like an over the top hot mess despite having sufficient vintage pieces to create an outfit a la the 90s. Starting with this baby doll dress I picked up during an after Christmas sale plus my vintage Docs, I had to keep the rest contemporary. The vibe came across and I only had to use one authentic item. A perfect cozy outfit for drinking with the boys last Friday night.

Winterlude

So if you haven't noticed, it snowed a whole bunch, causing my current dilemma of deciding on an appropriate winter boot. The last couple of years, I was only briefly in the snow on holiday and got by using polyurethane booties because they were cheap and reasonable cute. Now that I'm here to stay, I want something with a little more quality. One necessity is a good tread and I prefer natural material. I made the dive and got a pair of Dr. Martens 1460. They are really rugged, but now that the snow is so unavoidable at this point, I'm afraid the leather will get ruined from the weather and salt. I'm just going to treat them, wear them on rotation, and see how it goes. Fingers crossed.

Crawfish to the bitter end

Today was effortless dressing- something that does not happen too often with me. This outfit came together with no planning. I just grabbed a couple of pieces I haven't worn in a really really long time. It's about time I did because I keep hanging on to items like this sweater and jacket, telling myself I will put them on again. Mostly they remain in the 'maybe I should donate pile,' hanging around as clutter making me dangerously close to being a pack rat.

Salt skin

Check out this wonderful sweater my mother-in-law gave me for Christmas. I was so surprised to pull something so lovely out of a freshly unwrapped box. It was love at first sight.
