Buggy Parking

Today, we drove out to New York to visit Tim's mama and stopped at some junk stores on the way for some unsuccessful Christmas shopping. What we did find, at the smelly Union City Sal Val, was shoes! I got a pair of tan leather loafers and some whiskey brogues that are very similar to my Bass oxford pumps. But I couldn't pass on the brogues because they are scary close to the ideal oxfords I had in mind when I first started buying them two years ago because they are open on the top of the foot.

DIY: Collar Tips

This is my first DIY post! The project came about leaving empty handed while looking for triangular pieces in the jewelry section of craft stores all over town. Before I jumped on the internet, I stumbled across this happy accident at my first trip since getting back in town to the thrift store on Peach. Browsing the belts I noticed that certain ones had tips that were very close to what I was looking for, so I picked up a couple that matched.
To start, I removed the tips from the belts by hand (pliers
might be helpful here). On one, I retained a rivet which
provided a stable base to affix the Pinback.

The materials I used to change these belt
tips into collar tips were: a Hot Glue Gun,
3/4" Broach Pinbacks, and Toothpicks

Run a line of Hot Glue inside of the belt tip from rivet point to
rivet point.

Affix the Pinbacks to the Hot Glue by pressing them down with
Toothpicks to secure. Wait for the glue to set.

And... Taa Da!

Elaborate Collar

Finally, a chance to dress up. I've find it hard to justify getting out of my jeans. Most of my about-towns would be inappropriate in anything other than casual wear. About the blouse: I can't decide whether I want to keep it in my closet and remix, or detach the collar to wear with other outfits.

Muppets gear

I've been having a bit of trouble getting into the groove with my pictures since moving back to Pennsylvania. It's mostly the time change- my sleep pattern is totally off, just starting to get back to normal. Like this adjustment, so is the planning around my new 4 pm magic hour. These photos were taken when the sun was nearly set, way past sufficient natural lighting, leaving little patience for getting appropriate images, let alone detail pics. Then again, maybe this outfit just doesn't photograph well. I wore my green felt and fur jacket in homage of Kermit and a leopard print scarf and retro wide leg jeans in honor of the glamorous Miss Piggy and the premier of the oh so satisfying Muppets' Movie.

Sal Val Trove

At the beginning of the week, I stopped in at the Sal Val on Peach Street. I picked up a couple things, mainly the supplies I needed to do a DIY project. Here are a few awesome I finds I left behind because I just couldn't justify their necessity.

These loafers are something I have been lusting after! Fringe, designer, great condition- Perfect! Except, not my size. The belt on the right is also a unique high quality find.

Tapestry is another thing I've been on the lookout for. This is a stunning vintage purse. I hope it is still there when I go back for their Black Friday sale. The whole store will be half off.

Here is another gorgeous vintage leather, chain strap bag.

I have been searching for an ideal pair of huaraches. Now out of season, these would have been it, but, alas, also not in my size.
This is such a sweet peter pan collar collar vintage blouse.

Ballet Unwrapped

I went shopping in the clothes that were forgotten, stored, or laying about my parents house. These pieces were things that were swapped among sisters, going back and forth, and receiving new life over the year. In addition I found some new-to-me things that I can't wait to outfit up. This cardigan is a knit ballet wrap that I've had for years and love the color and texture. I saw it hanging open in a closet and was inspired to wear it as fluttery asymmetrical cardigan.

Camouflage

These photos were the last taken in Arizona, on my last date night before the move. I had a fixation with wearing these shoes with this top and it proved harder to match than expected. However, the original outfit, with my high heel mary janes, will be an awesome get up when I receive my stuff. On a more present note, we survived the move, obtained transportation, are happily getting settled, spotting out new apartments, and awaiting our in-transit possessions.

Not so secret garden

Whew! Today was hectic, running around Tempe tying up loose ends but also enjoying a day out and about to have some last Tempeite experiences. We rode the train, walked around school, and hit up Buffalo Exchange one final time before we move on Tuesday. And on a stunning note, not one thing I wore today was second-hand- a major rarity because I am a cheapskate and thoroughly believe in recycling. Happy Friday and Veterans Day!!

Minder Binder

The moving countdown is officially down to one week. These pictures were taken before dinner with a friend who is ironically flying out to my home town tonight. Tomorrow we are putting the car back on Craigslist and if we are as lucky as we were the first time, I can expect to be completely tied up with interested buyers. Good thing I ended today in a very comfortable place with my work. I hope you are having a great week! Thanks for stopping by.

Eyes can't look at you any other way

I finally got my first pair of Doc Martens after wanting them for months. I got them second-hand in all their 90s glory at a consignment shop, Name Brand Exchange, which has been stocking them for a while now. I thought I would be waiting until Christmas because they are one of the few things on my list, but when I saw these in my size and thought it over for a couple days, I decided to go for it. I am actually glad to have this dated pair since I saw Journeys started selling them. Plus, the only new pair I want are the wedges. There is a similar lumberjack pair I melted for, but they only come in men's sizes. They make me feel like a straight poser, like I'm one step away from rocking a fake Brit accent, but they are so comfy, half the time I forget. It makes me grateful I didn't get 10+ eyelet boots; my core will never be that hard.

Take me in your arms knowing I'm the one

Saturday was Phoenix's Dia de los Muertos party. This long standing community tradition was an amazing experience. The night was filled with friends, dressing up, and ceremony. I am grateful for the opportunity to, one last time, witness the incredible way this city blends and connects cultures in fun and chaos. Thanks to the hosts who welcomed us into their brilliant space to share in the festivities.
